Scottish
National Party (SNP):
Ettrick,
Roxburgh & Berwickshire Constituency
(covering the counties of
Berwickshire, Roxburghshire & Selkirkshire ward) |
|
This site is intended to provide a resource of information for
those interested in learning more about the work of the SNP or who
are considering
voting for the party. The site also allows us to communicate
directly with you, the people of the Borders.

The site also sets out our policies and information about our
most important asset, our people, including Paul
Wheelhouse, our local Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the
newly created Scottish Parliament constituency of Ettrick,
Roxburgh and Berwickshire; a seat covering Roxburgh, Berwickshire,
Selkirk and the Ettrick and Yarrow valleys in Selkirkshire.
The SNP won a
historic national victory in the Scottish Parliament Election in
2007. In doing this, the party received the most 'first votes' (26% or 14,400 votes) in
total across the
two Borders constituencies. If everyone who
voted for Alex Salmond for First Minister votes SNP again in 2011 we stand every chance
of seeing the SNP Scottish Government re-elected and for our candidate,
Paul
Wheelhouse, to win. We know from our canvassing
since May 2010 that many Lib
Dem voters, with whom we share many policy objectives, feel betrayed by the deal struck between the
Lib Dems and
the Tories at a UK level, which saw the Lib Dems throw away their
principles, and those voters are now turning to the SNP to represent
them.
With the SNP having formed
a minority Scottish Government for the last four years, and the Scottish Parliament's largest
party, and Alex Salmond MSP as Scotland's First Minister, we in
the SNP believe we have a historic opportunity to win seats like
Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire and to represent the people of this wonderful
constituency. We are working hard and hope to earn your
support.
It is clear from academic analysis of the estimated vote
shares within this new constituency that the seat is heading for a
three-way contest between the SNP and the two "ConDem" parties
imposing cuts on Scotland, i.e. the Lib Dems and Tories. No
serious commentator suggests that Labour can win this time, given
that they have just 8% of constituency and 12% of list votes.

At
a local level, we remain committed to the regeneration of our rural
economy and for sustaining and improving the vitality and quality of
life of our distinctive communities.
The site will continue to add content, as we campaign on behalf
of the people of the constituency, and will help inform those
interested in the SNP.
So, if you don't find
what you are looking for on this occasion, please come back to the
site again - watch this space and please do spread the word! If there
is any aspect of policy you would like to have more detail on, just
let us know.
