The
SNP believes in Scotland having a non-nuclear defence force, which
would mean that an SNP Government of an Independent Scotland would
seek to negotiate a speedy removal of the Trident Nuclear
Submarine fleet from our Waters and replacement with Scottish
controlled, non-nuclear submarines. We would maintain a
substantial Scottish Defence Force, which would be involved in
international peace-keeping duties and would have a minimum
establishment of the forces and bases Scotland inherits upon
Independence. Restore
Scotland's Regiments: The SNP strongly opposed the merger,
or effective abolition of Scotland's proud regiments, including
the Kings Own Scottish Borderers and Royal Scots, two of the
oldest regiments in the Army. We supported those engaged in
the Save Our Scottish Regiments campaign. In particular, we deplored the betrayal of Scotland's brave soldiers fighting in Iraq
- while they risked their lives, the Labour Government consigned
their regiments to oblivion, stabbing them in the back. Only
an Independent Scotland with enhanced conventional forces can give
hope for restoration of these proud regiments. To

Scotland's involvement in an illegal Invasion of Iraq, without a

history, please
