The constituency of
Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk
was created following the reduction in number of Scottish
Westminster constituencies, from 72 to 59, in 2005.
In effect the Selkirkshire area of the former Tweeddale
Ettrick and Lauderdale seat (still intact for Scottish
Parliament elections) was added to the pre-existing Roxburgh
and Berwickshire seat vacated by Sir Archie Kirkwood's
retirement. The constituency has an electorate in excess of
74,150. This site's home
page and the section setting out opinion
poll data suggest that, with work, this seat is winnable
for the SNP.
A full list of the wards comprising the new seat are listed
below, followed by a map indicating the wards within the
Borders (those in green are entirely within the
Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk constituency) while a map of the constituency is presented at the
foot of this page. It is clear to all but the most
biased of Tory or Lib Dem observers that the SNP vote has
moved on considerably since we attained just under 9% of the
vote in 2005
By 2007, the SNP polled 21.6% of the constituency vote,
23.6% of the list vote, and 18.5% of council 1st
preference votes, with 5 councillors being elected in the
constituency. We are confident of adding to our council
group in 2012: |
