Auction Mart Plans Move Forward
THE
Cabinet Secretary for the Environment and Rural Affairs, Richard
Lochhead, MSP was back in the Borders last week when he paid a visit
to Newtown St Boswells and visited Scottish Borders Council for a
private meeting.
Later in the
day he met up with local SNP members when Councillors Willie
Archibald, Bill Herd and Kenneth Gunn joined the Scottish National
Party prospective parliamentary candidate for Berwickshire, Roxburgh
and Selkirk County, Paul Wheelhouse, to welcome the Minister to the
Borders.
They were at
the John Swan & Son auction mart in the village where Richard
Lochhead met with Jack Clarke and discussed in private the company’s
plans to move the livestock auction market across to the other side
of the A68.
The
re-development of the market plays a vital part in the re-generation
of the village of Newtown and it is hoped that parts of the present
market, including the sale ring pictured here, will form a major
part in providing a village centre to support shops as well as
around 200 new homes.
